Groove Authority plays an exciting mix of r & b, dance grooves, funky rhythms, ballads, and all-out jams.Our repertoire includes r & b, funk, soul, and jump/swing numbers.
Groove Authority has been featured on WBOS's Blues on Sunday with Holly Harris and WATD's Wide World of Blues with Peter Black.
They have performed at such well known Massachusetts venues as the House of Blues, Harper's Ferry, Johnny D's, Ryles Jazz Club, Bob The Chef's, The Yard Rock, Gilrein's, the Acton Jazz Cafe, the Rio Grande, and the Chicken Bone, as well as many other popular clubs in the New England area.
Lynn Simone- Vocals
Lynn has been in the music business for 30 years. She joined her first band at the age of 14, playing drums before she switched to singing. While attending Rhode Island School of Design in the sixties, she booked concerts with many of the top bands of the day. Janis Joplin was one of them. Janis told Lynn regarding her wish to sing, to "stop talking about it and just do it". Lynn put down her sticks and never looked back. Since graduating in 1970, she toured with Gregg Allman on his 1974 Laid Back Tour, appeared in Milos Foreman's 1971 film "Taking Off" (with Carly Simon), worked in an all-black gospel choir, toured with Equity musicals, done jingles, demos, and back-up vocal dates. In the 80's as a part of the Equal Opportunity Band she won South Florida Magazine's blues and r & b band award and wrote Gov. Graham's campaign song. Since returning to New England Lynn has worked extensively in jazz but r & b, soul and blues are her first love. Lynn says "after 35 years you keep doing this because it's in your blood".
Steve Jacobs- Guitar/Keys/Horns
Steve has over 25 years of professional experience in the music business and has worked as a sideman, frontman, soundman, bandleader, and teacher since the mid 70's. He has performed with three-time Downbeat Jazz Poll winner alto-saxophonist Richie Cole, as well as the late jazz guitarist Charlie Byrd, and blues guitarist David Bromberg among others. Steve has paid his dues playing in touring shows and dance bands up and down the east coast and countless blues, r & b, funk, jazz, fusion, latin, classic rock, and country groups. You name it he's done it.
Paul Fudin- Guitar
Paul has been playing guitar for 20 years. He grew up in New York City, where he honed his chops by emulating such luminaries as B.B. King, Albert King, Buddy Guy, Albert Collins, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton, and Larry McCray. He has been playing around the Boston area for the last ten years. Paul says "I have to play music because it allows me to express what I am feeling inside like nothing else can".
Franco Pinna- Drums
Franco is a graduate of the Berklee College of Music in Boston and has been playing drums as long as he can remember. He has played with many notable jazz and latin performers such as Oscar Stagnaro, Milli Bermejo, Jeff Balard, Bruce Barth, Cesar Isella, and Claudio Ragazzi, both in Boston and New York, and has also toured in South America. Franco adds his very distinctive latin style to the band's varied repertoire.
Ervin Dhimo-Bass
Ervin Dhimo was born in Tirana, Albania. He he took lessons with the great Greek Bass player Yiotis Kiurtzoglou while studying at the Philipos Nakas Music Conservatory in Athens Greece. Ervin earned a European scholarship from The Berklee College of Music of which he is a graduate. Recently he has been studying with the legendary jazz teacher Charlie Banacos. Since coming to America, Ervin has played in many various musical events, Jazz & Blues Festivals, and played at many area clubs. He is also active teaching music in the Framingham area. Ervin loves to groove and funks up the band songs with his infectious, fun spirit and slapping bass style.
