In 1998, two musicians were working in a mailroom lamenting the lack of good live music in their area when over the radio waves came Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition.” Soon followed by Earth Wind & Fire’s “Sing-A-Song,” the two musicians were struck by the infectious grooves, harmonies and horns that filled the air. The idea was hatched to create a heavy groovin’ band performing this and other great music of similar soul and energy. Music by Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, Al Green, Santana and Bob Marley immediately came to mind mixed with songs that people rarely hear in the same breath by the Talking Heads and Grateful Dead along with more current material by Pink, Outkast and Lenny Kravitz. In The House was created to rock these tunes to their very essence… Great Dance Tunes with a heavy backbeat propelled by a driving rhythm section, crisp horns and soaring harmonies fronted by two of the areas hottest female vocalists. There is only one Aretha, Marvin, Stevie, Carlos & Bob. Efforts to imitate them are just that, imitations. But the spirit that they put into their music transcends the physical body and In The House captures that spirit, the urgency of the times. Not mimicking the original recordings but adding new life to them with a freshness reminiscent of the first moments these songs were heard on the radio. Not happy being just a cover band, In The House is on a journey to become one of the top touring bands in the US and abroad performing some of the greatest R&B, Motown, Reggae and Dance Rock ever written, in addition to their own material, to the countless people in clubs and concert halls who are moved by the same emotions that made this music the soul of America. This music isn’t just great music, it’s footstompin’, heart racing, hip gyrating, soul inspiring, and most importantly…it’s FUN! Guitar and Percussion driven, In The House is comprised of some of the areas top musicians featuring the Award winning Patrice Williamson and Marianne Solivan bringing their jazz vibes to the front vocal slot, Award winning world percussionist/vocalist Kera Washington has been, and is, a major force both on and off stage bringing the Hip-Hop and Reggae element to the mix, drummer/vocalist Stephen Bourassa brings pop sensibilities and a steady beat providing the platform for The House to shine, guitarist Drew Saltzman provides the rockin’ edge to the band, and Dominican born bassist/guitarist Leo Colon stirs in his Latin and Jazz influences. All of this backed by some of Boston’s Top Horns and an occasional special guest including Hammond B3 artist Rusty Scott.
